Karst development potential mapping using fuzzy logic (Case Study: Susan Plain basin and plain Izeh)

Abstract

Geomorphic karst landscapes as a result of the dissolution of the ingredients of rocks, have been formed by natural water plays an important role in the geological diversity and is considered one of the priorities of management. Planning for karst areas require the studies on the recognition Karst, characteristics and its role in feeding water resources are necessary. The aim of this study is to identify and develop potential zoning karst in the plain area ize and Susan plain in Khuzestan province is using fuzzy logic in Geographic Information Systems. The main research base map data including topographic maps at a scale of 1: 25,000 geological map at a scale of 1: 100,000 as well as temperature and precipitation data have formed. To run a fuzzy model using the software Arc GIS 10/2 eight criteria including slope, geology, soil cover, land use, distance from faults, elevation, temperature and precipitation have been used. Based on the results of the fuzzy layer, which reduces the amount of tilt and distance from fault, with increased calcareous sediments, vegetation, temperature, rainfall and soil surface cover the karstic increases. The results showed that areas prone to karst existing layers with a total area of almost 32 percent in the South, East, West and parts of the North East region, and parts of central and northern parts of the study area East area 50 percent of the karstic is very little potential.
