Flooding is one of the well-known geomorphological hazards of watersheds. Understating and zoning the floods at watersheds zoning can be effectively influential in flood management, control and prohibition. This accordingly can reduce the damages level.
In this study, we elaborated cutting-edge technology GIS/RS and watershed runoff curve number SCS-CN to prepare the zoning map for Nekarood. For this reason, using topographic maps and DEM, we determine in particular watershed boundaries in GIS environment and the layer slope is divided into smaller sub-basins. The Basin lithology maps are converted into digital values (using ArcGIS environment) to be combined with other layers. Then, using collected data via satellite, we subsequently updated landuse of watershed Nekarood and the required calculations needed for determining the hydrologic soil groups were taken into account. According to our comprehensive survey, the CN value, viscosity factor (S) and runoff retention (Q) for all the basins are calculated. And finally Nekarood basin flood zoning map is prepared by combining layers and processing in ArcGIS. The study revealed that the combination of remote sensing and GIS technology and using SCS-CN model can be effectively promising in watershed flood zoning map preparation.
